The artist known as “Prince” died Thursday at age 57.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement.

The late pop star was known as one of the most influential musicians of his time. Over almost four decades, Prince produced nearly 40 studio albums, won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for his hit “Purple Rain," and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

According to TMZ, Prince appeared before fans at a Paisley Park “dance party” on Saturday evening, following a medical emergency. “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers,” he told the crowd. He offered this haunting advice just five days before his death.

We remember the iconic singer and songwriter with a look back at some more of Prince's most memorable quotes.

"All these non-singing, non-dancing, wish-I-had-me-some-clothes fools who tell me my albums suck. Why should I pay any attention to them?"

Prince dismisses his haters in a 2006 interview with the Guardian.

"No child is bad from the beginning, they just imitate their atmosphere."

Prolific lyrics reflecting on the state of our youth from his 1981 song "Sexuality".

“Oh I love critics. Because they love me. It’s not a joke. They care.”

Prince made his famously negative view of the press clear in another 2015 interview.

"The key to longevity is to learn every aspect of music that you can."

The pop legend offered a bit of advice to newcomer Justin Bieber, and aspiring musicians everywhere, in an appearance on The View.

“Why does everyone think I’m mad?”

He once posed this question to the British press.

“Act your age and not your shoe size.”

You've probably heard your mother recite this lyric from his hit song "Kiss".

"The Internet's completely over. I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it."

Forever an individual, Prince refused to give away his music to tech industries. You definitely won't find his music on Spotify.

"I ain't mad at anybody. I don't have any enemies."

This quote from a Guardian interview may not be entirely true, but the music icon’s work was certainly universally celebrated.

Rest in peace, Prince.
