The artist known as “Prince” died Thursday at age 57.
"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement.
The late pop star was known as one of the most influential musicians of his time. Over almost four decades, Prince produced nearly 40 studio albums, won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for his hit “Purple Rain," and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
According to TMZ, Prince appeared before fans at a Paisley Park “dance party” on Saturday evening, following a medical emergency. “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers,” he told the crowd. He offered this haunting advice just five days before his death.

Forever an individual, Prince refused to give away his music to tech industries. You definitely won't find his music on Spotify.

This quote from a Guardian interview may not be entirely true, but the music icon’s work was certainly universally celebrated.
