Fast Fashion: The Do's and Don'ts of the Jogger Pant
It’s that time of the year again when we bring back our North Face jackets and sweatpants, because ain’t nobody got time to look cute for class. The struggle is about to get hella real in Syracuse as winter slowly, but surely crawls closer. However, with “fast fashion” clothing stores recreating the iconic jogger pant, there is still hope to look presentable, yet laid-back.
Jogger pants give you the ultimate excuse to roll out of bed, looking decent enough to belt, “I woke up like dis.” The jogger pant, which is available from affordable brands like H&M, Forever21, Zara, and just about everywhere, is the latest effort to fuse the sporty, casual look with a twist of polished edge. I mean, they’re basically fashionable sweatpants that you can shamelessly wear to your 9 a.m. because you decided to keep up with the Kardashians until 3 a.m. the night before. #JudgeFreeZone.
Well, that’s exactly why people love the trend — it’s easy, effortless, and edgy all at the same time. It has a modern twist on the traditional sweat pant you would wear while you’re straight chillin' and watching Netflix on a Sunday.
Now, let’s dive in to the real dilemma of the century: the drop crotch joggers #FirstWorldProblems. The concept of the drop crotch jogger pant is what confuses me. Originating from Asia, these pants are also known as Harem or Diaper pants. I don’t know about you, but I don’t necessarily want the word “diaper” in the name of my pants — that’s so 18 years ago. Although they are somewhat of a statement piece when styled correctly, they can very easily turn into a catastrophe. Justin Bieber, above, is such a common offender he's bound to end up on Fashion Police any day now (R.I.P. Joan Rivers).
Maybe the Biebs should re-evaluate his choice of wardrobe stylists. A baffling issue with these joggers is “the bulge.” If you’re a guy, you know exactly what I am talking about. It's already bad enough with normal joggers, yet these drop crotch ones just highlight “the bulge” even more. However, I do believe that there is still some hope for these pants, despite this atrocious ensemble JB and his last cellmate put together.
Drop crotch joggers tend to make you look significantly shorter since it makes one’s figure appear as disproportionate. Girls can combat this problem by wearing a pair of platforms to accentuate their legs and accent their pants in a flattering manner.
On the other hand, guys can circumvent the same problem with fitted jackets like a blazer or a leather moto jacket. This tailored look on top will balance out the sloppiness of the bottom, showcasing a cleaner and more succinct presentation of the pants.
