RIP Yogurtland: Soon to be Gone, Never Forgotten

Photo by Adham Elsharkawy Sadly, the rumors are true.

The Yogurtland on Marshall Street will permanently close on Dec. 19. When I first heard the news, I didn’t believe it. However, signs titled “Store Closing” hung around the store confirmed the tragic news.

For their final days here, they have a “goodbye special” in which if customers can buy 10 oz or more of fro-yo, you get 3 oz free. I’ve never seen or considered 13+ oz of yogurt in my life, but it makes sense to eat it all now to make up for the fro-yo we will be missing next semester… right?

Yogurtland currently has 8 yogurt flavors and 3 seasonal flavors. The regular flavors are Pecan and Pralines, Strawberry Lemonade Sorbet, Grape Freeze Sorbet, Red Velvet Cupcake Batter, Pistachio, Plain Tart, Pumpkin Pie, and Fresh Strawberry. For the holidays they came out with Bananas Foster, White Chocolate Peppermint, Cranberry Raspberry, and Caramel Almond.

My personal favorite, Graham Cracker, was nowhere to be found, but I savored every free sample cup of Red Velvet, Pistachio, and Fresh Strawberry I was able to. I said goodbye to the weird fruit bubbles that pop in your mouth, goodbye to the sour gummy worms, goodbye to the brownie bits, and cookie dough.

It might be hard to be a frozen yogurt chain in one of the snowiest cities in the country, but where else is there to go around here when you have an ice cream or fro-yo craving? The options are already limited.

I’ll miss being able to control the portion size or mix together whatever flavors I want. With Yogurtland, if you want all 12 flavors in one cup, you can do that. Land of the free and home of the yogurt.

I’ll miss the extensive toppings options. If you want to pretend you’re healthy, you can load that shit up with fruits. Or if you’re looking to #treatyoself, go straight for the Oreo chunks, the chocolate chips, the gummy bears. The opportunities are endless.

And I’ll miss deciding if I want a pink or green spoon. Even though I almost always picked green. Fuck gender stereotypes.

Yogurtland, you had a good run on Marshall. You will be missed. #BringColdStone2016
