How to Rock Classy 'Cuse Gear
I’ve been rooting for Syracuse University since before I even knew what football and basketball were (seriously, though, I was like five years old). I’m the 13th member of my family to go to Syracuse, so I was basically raised to bleed orange. My family’s legacy with SU goes way back to my great-grandmother, or great Gram as we called her. She was quite the socialite and sorority gal, she believed in all things Syracuse, and she definitely knew how to put a great outfit together.
While my great Gram had an overwhelming amount of school spirit, she would never put together a tasteless outfit to show her support. Not all of us prefer to dress head-to-toe in nausea-inducing orange to support our school. And for those who don’t, there are several other options for you.
Clothing pieces in subdued colors like gray, slate, and faded blue show school spirit without looking like a LITERAL walking orange. You can easily mix and match these pieces with denim or black jeans. Just imagine how sleek you would look pairing this tank with liquid leather leggings and some chic black booties.
This outfit is the perfect thing to wear to the game, and then out for drinks afterwards. Some of my other favorite options are this gray sweater, this faded tank, and this crewcut top:
Vintage inspired pieces are perfect if you’re looking for a laidback and unique outfit (extra style points if you can find something actually vintage).
Pieces like this ivory top and this T-shirt:would look great styled under a cardigan or leather jacket. An old school style always looks cool, and not like you’re trying too hard.
SU accessories are also an option to consider. They allow you to show school spirit without it overpowering your entire outfit. A white baseball cap is simplistic and versatile.
Style it with athletic gear for the gym, or a crisp button-down, vest, and jeans for game day. For something more saucy, a snapback cap can have a cool girl vibe when worn with a monochromatic navy outfit and fitted clothing.
Try styling it with skinny jeans, a navy crewcut sweater, and sharp athletic shoes — this is something Cara Develinge would totally rock.
And just FYI, a slouchy hat can look equally as awesome when styled the same way.
If you do want to wear orange, there are tasteful ways you can do it. J.Crew has some lux tanks and sweaters in burnt orange and soft oranges.
And Victoria’s Secret has some fun options too (avoiding the sequins is a smart move).
