All of the Love for Emma Watson
Ugh, this celebrity nude photo scandal looks like it’s just never going to end.
Last week, rumors began circulating the Internet that nude photos of Emma Watson were going to be leaked from the 4chan, the same hackers that released explicit photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Victoria Justice, and other celebs.
This rumor came only days after Emma made a passionate and empowering speech advocating feminism at the United Nations. Watson, a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, strongly urged men to join the fight for gender equality and launched the HeForShe campaign. Without a doubt, the Internet blew up in response to her initiative.
It seems somewhat strange, and also incredibly sad, to hear that only a few days after Emma’s powerful and monumental speech, the rumored threat of releasing nude photos came along. Why can’t these freaking hackers leave her alone? All she’s working to do is make a positive change in our world, so give Hermione a break, alright?!
Typically when female celebrity’s nude photos leak, the public tends to shame the celebrity for even taking the photos in the first place. However, in Emma’s case, the overwhelming amount of love and support after her speech and the rumored threat was astounding.
Now, it has thankfully been confirmed that the nude photo leak threat was only a malicious hoax. The fact that a woman was both verbally attacked and sexually assaulted in retaliation for promoting the feminist movement is a disappointing reflection of society today. But, support for Emma is still pouring out. People are taking this scandal and using it to further rally support for Emma’s HeForShe campaign. If you go to Twitter, and scroll through the hashtag #HeForShe, your feed will literally blow up with endless tweets supporting feminism. Here are some of the Internet’s best reactions to HeForShe and the fake nude photo scandal:
