8 Things You Should Be Ordering From Good Uncle And Why

Photo by Chaz Delgado During college we often sacrifice quality of food for any kind of sustenance our bank account will allow. Home-cooked meals become nothing but a myth as we put all of our funds towards important recreational activities such as alcohol consumption. Miraculously, while we don’t have money for textbooks or basic human luxuries such as soap, we manage to earn recognition as “No. 1 for late night munchies.”

With plenty of turnover on Marshall Street and some of our favorite late night establishments seemingly vanishing into thin air, a light shines in the form of black delivery vehicles with bold white lettering. These vans you’ve seen whizzing all over the Syracuse University campus area belong to Good Uncle, the brainchild of an SU drop-out.

Long story short, Good Uncle's kitchen is teeming with cooks, who make some of New York City’s favorite recipes with shocking accuracy and then deliver them to you at a price that won’t break the bank for of an average college student. While binge–eating Dominos pizza and drunkenly devouring Calios can be fun once in awhile, Good Uncle offers a much-needed alternative to the Syracuse food delivery scene.

In all seriousness, it is hard to fuck up fries, but the art of the loaded fries is much more complicated. Will the cheese made the fries soggy? What will happen to the crispness of the fries? Lord knows how, but this order—regardless of cheese, bacon, scallions, whathaveyou—are still crispy golden pieces of heaven that are worth every calorie.

If you were to marry a sandwich, this would be the one. It is unpredictable, yet fulfilling and has so much depth and character to it that you’d be proud to bring it home to Mom. Good Uncle's chicken parm sandwich elevates expectations to new levels with the meltiest mozzarella you’ve ever tasted, the perfect amount of marina sauce and peanut-Thai basil pesto sauce that will quite literally knock your pants off.

One of the great things about Good Uncle is their ability to bring the taste of NYC to Syracuse in such a way that you won’t be able to recognize the difference. We can confirm that these taste the same as the original chicken fingers from Sticky’s in NYC. With the high quality meat, lack of grease and certain sweetness, this friendly chicken finger bets out Ernie Davis chicken tenders any day.

After years of making easy mac, this Truffle Mac n Cheese is the holy grail. While portion sizes leave something to be desired, the flavor and cheesy goodness make up for it.

You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Good Uncle allows you to enjoy it no matter what time you wake up. Whether you’re looking for a hangover cure or just an excuse to put some extra sustenance in your body, it is hard to go wrong with any of the breakfast sandwiches on the menu.

  1. Chopped Kale Quinoa & Strawberry Salad

Take one bite and you’re sure to feel like one healthy betch. Kale, quinoa and strawberries is pretty much the diet of a rabbit, and the amount of leafy greens in this salad confirms it. In comparison to other salads that are slathered in ranch dressing and chunks of chicken, this salad could be considered grass. If you prefer a little something special, you should probably add your own additional toppings—for example: Cheetos, granola, an entire rotisserie chicken.

Chicken is often a go-to staple for college students, its cheap, its quick and easy to cook—not exactly the thing you’d be excited to order. Think again, Good Uncle’s Herb Marinated Chicken changes the game. This piece of meat is big enough to be your boyfriend and tender and juicy enough to sleep on.

Eating healthy through delivery may not seem quite possible, but Good Uncle offers side options like Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower and roasted butternut squash to ensure customers can enjoy a “well-rounded meal.” While this may not be thrilling, for those who enjoy real food over processed shit…here ya go.

Pro-tip: Dig into the vegetables first to guarantee the roasted, fresh crunch you’re looking for. The longer you wait to dig in the soggier these buttery veggies may become.
