Peach Tree Rascals “Camp Nowhere” Review
If the band Peach Tree Rascals doesn’t ring a bell to you, remember that summer TikTok dance featuring the catchy song “Mariposa”? Yeah, that’s them. It’s long overdue that we appreciate them for more than a 4-week long dance fad created by Charli D’Amelio (probably).
Beyond that, their music is best described as what you play with a group of friends in a packed car with the windows down. On March 26, Peach Tree Rascals dropped their debut EP, “Camp Nowhere”.
As so many artists and bands do these days, the five-member indie-pop group found fame through a corny social media trend and rode the overnight acclaim on their way to this release. The 8-track EP is brimming with summertime songs consistent with the rest of their music.
If you are prepping that summer playlist this time of year, “LEAVE ME” and “Change My Mind” from the first half of the EP have to be instant picks. These two jams give off that feel-good vibe Peach Tree Rascals has begun to identify themselves with over time.
As the EP winds down, the band strips it down in tracks like “papá” and “Pockets”. While it isn’t what we’re accustomed to from them, Peach Tree Rascals provides us with some finality while displaying their flexibility and range. It keeps the project from being one-dimensional and allows for some introspection on the listener’s end.
The group polishes off the EP with “Oh, Honey! (I Love You)”, which exhibits shades of Rex Orange County with a subtle acoustic guitar playing of the soft vocals. It’s a natural way to end the EP, which is only 22 minutes long but takes us through an array of moods.
If you enjoy this project, check out their older music. “Fumari”, “Mango”, and “Summa” radiate that happy, summer feeling, while “Someday” brings you back down to earth.
Even if you're sick of “Mariposa” by now, Peach Tree Rascals have delivered with “Camp Nowhere” at the perfect time, right as the weather has begun to warm up and we can break out the shorts and shades.
