We Need to Start Loving Ourselves Everyday

For those of us not in a relationship, we dread the middle of February. Mushy couples, red rose bouquets, and heart-shaped chocolate boxes flood our feeds and leave most of us feeling… lonely. But with the most hated day of the year behind us (thank god), we should reconsider what Valentine’s Day is really all about. It’s about love, and above all else, it is about self love. So, here is a little self guide to break the cycle of self-loathing we fall into the rest of the 364 days a year.

Let’s start the morning off on the right foot. Make your way to People’s Place to grab an Austin Powers (and remember to tip!!). In a perfect world, the sun will be shining, so consider soaking in the warmth outside of Hendrick’s for a minute.

Now that your Syracuse, winter-induced, Vitamin C deficiency has been addressed, it’s time to hop on a bus or grab your car and head to downtown. Bonus points if you bring along your best reusable tote bag, but of course not required.

Nothing says “self care” quite like buying yourself flowers, so we would recommend stopping by Floral Essence to grab a beautiful bouquet. You can even write yourself a little love note to remind yourself how great you are.

Parthenon Books is also just around the corner, perfect for keeping yourself company when people are a little too draining. Or, if you’re in the mood for a snack, Oh My Darling and Funk n’ Waffles are both delicious ways to show yourself how much you care.

After successfully completing retail therapy, it’s time to head back to campus and end the date off on a high note. We encourage you to reclaim the kissing bench – because who needs a S.O. – and enjoy your new novel, food, and flowers.

As the sun sets over a day well spent, we hope you remember that you deserve this type of love. Even though this amazing date isn’t realistic for everyday, remember to keep being kind to yourself each and every day. Especially when Valentine’s Day rolls around again next year.
