Drake is Obsessed with Summer Walker’s Over It

Summer Walker just dropped her latest album, Over It, and we can’t stop listening. It’s so good that even Drake has spoken up about it. In an Instagram message exchange that Walker posted, Drake said that listening to the album inspired him to write two new songs of his own (which we’re waiting impatiently for). With eighteen tracks and features from six different artists, it’s difficult to pick favorites, but here are Jerk’s top picks (off the record, of course):

Playing Games

This song appears on the album twice, first as an extended edition featuring Bryson Tiller, and then later again as a solo version. While both versions leave us speechless, Bryson Tiller’s feature is part of what makes this particular song stand out. His rap verse, which finishes out the track, blends so well with Walker’s voice and style that it almost feels more like a duet. During the track, Summer calls a guy out for making it seem like she doesn’t exist in his life, which is an all too relatable feeling. The slow-moving smooth vocals of both Walker and Tiller easily make this the best track on the album

Drunk Dialing… LODT

Ever drunk called or texted an ex? Yep, us too. As Walker says, “too much patron will have you callin’ his phone.” This song makes interesting use of background noise, as we hear a FaceTime call ringing while Drunk Dialing fades out. Mid-track, the song transitions to LOTD, which is a little R&B love song for her boyfriend and producer, London On Da Track. Normally, combining two songs into one wouldn’t be a good idea, but Walker pulls it off gracefully with this track making it a top favorite.

Fun Girl

There’s so much raw emotion in this song. The lyrics cut deep as Walker sings about feeling like she’s not being taken seriously as ‘wifey-potential’ because of her independent, won’t-take-your- shit attitude. The natural electric guitar instrumentals make the track seem even more personal, like you’re right there with her. According to the Instagram messages mentioned earlier, this is Drake’s favorite song off the album. It’s so emotionally blunt and flawlessly vulnerable that it makes your heart ache once you reach the end.

Stretch You Out (feat. A Boogie wit da Hoodie)

This song is steamy. Walker and featured rapper, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, really nailed it with the bedroom vibes on this one. Walker and A Boogie take opposing sides on the track: She sings about how he’s too demanding and she’s sick of it, and he raps about how she’s perfect and he wants her all to himself. Hm, sounds like some of the relationships we know! The rhythmic beat and repetitive chorus make this song perfect for a solo night in or for when you’re feeling a little more spicy.

I’ll Kill You (feat. Jhené Aiko)

Summer Walker plus Jhené Aiko. That’s really all that needs to be said.

Girls Need Love (with Drake) - Remix

We’re not sure if this song technically counts as a favorite on the album because it’s not exactly new, but it makes our list regardless. Walker previously released the track on her 2018 album, Last Day of Summer. Nevertheless, it is and will always be an absolute bop. “Girls need love too.” Period.
